I am starting my own theatre group, and want actors to join me. This will be a group performing plays in English. I have a script which I will write the screenplay for. I will start writing the screenplay on Sunday, 15th May 2011 and will be done by the 1st of June 2011.
The auditions begin on 16th May 2011, and we start our first production on 1st June 2011. We rehearse over the weekends, because we may have full-time jobs already, and we give our first live performance in the first week of July 2011 in theatres in Delhi.
I haven't found a place yet that we can rent out to practice, but I'm still looking. I have had a few emails from some of you who wish to join the group. And that's great. Thank you. I look forward to meeting you. It will happen. It's just a matter of some time. If you already know of a place that's available for free, and it could be your basement, drop me a line.
For now, I think I'll move the auditions to 1st September 2011. I'll write the screenplay in August 2011. But let's be in touch. I should be able to find a place, and make other production related arrangements by then.
You'll need to have good English speaking skills with a clear diction. You'll also need to be able to act. If you do not have experience, it doesn't matter. Experience is an overrated word. It's practice that counts. Acting is fun, but its also hard work. Like any other discipline, acting is common sense, observation, memorization, imitation, and practice.
Whatever money we get from live performances, after paying of the costs of props and production costs, we'll divide the profits equally. So, if there is a net collection of Rs.80,000 after meeting the costs, and there are 10 of us, each of us will take home Rs.8,000 for the performance.
I was looking for a group that did English plays. I found three such groups. One is in Mumbai, and this guy is just brilliant, and so is his entire group. If I was in Mumbai, I would have joined this group for no promise of any income at all, before you could drop a hat. This group is absolutely brilliant. The second group is Abhishek Majumdar's group and is in Bangalore. I forget the name of the group, though. Gosh! Equally brilliant. And the third in Delhi is Neel Choudhari's group called Tad Pole Theatre, which I unfortunately can't find an Internet link to. This guy is awesome. I haven't seen any of his work but I can't stop hearing about him. Everyone I meet with tells me about his group. I contacted Neel's group in Delhi but they're already busy with a production and Neel said it'll be some time before I could join them for a workshop.
So, I thought, heck, why not start my own? I am a goal achiever, and if I want something, and if it's not happening, I'll just do it.
